Type a real quote, or as many as you can in 1, 3 or 5 minutes, and find out how fast and how accurately you type. The clock starts with your first key, and at the end you get your speed, accuracy and time, with your best run of this visit beside it. It is free, with no account and no ads.
Speed is in words per minute (wpm), where a word means five characters. That is the standard typing tests use, so a long word counts for more than a short one and two people typing the same passage get comparable numbers.
On a single quote, pauses longer than three seconds are left out of the timing, so stopping to read ahead does not sink your score. A timed run keeps the clock going, as a timed test should, and counts only the words you typed exactly right over the whole time. Either way, accuracy on the result is the share of words you typed exactly right.
A space finishes each word. If the word you just finished was wrong, Backspace takes you back into it; a word typed correctly stays done. The on-screen keyboard lights up the next key, and the hands show which finger should press it.
Choose English, Nepali or Hindi from the language menu. Nepali quotes are typed on the Preeti layout and Hindi quotes on Kruti Dev, and switching language swaps in a quote you can type in it.
It depends on what you need it for. Jobs and exams set their own requirements, so check the notice for the post you are applying for rather than a number from the internet.
The more useful number is your own, over time. Every run is saved on your progress page, which charts your speed and accuracy and shows which keys slow you down. Keep accuracy at 95% or better and let speed follow: speed built on mistakes does not last.
Your choice, from the Length menu: one quote, which for most people is under a minute, or 1, 3 or 5 minutes, with one quote running on into the next until time is up. For exam-length practice, the Lok Sewa practice test lasts 5, 10 or 15 minutes.
Sites differ in how they treat mistakes and pauses. Here a word is five characters, a wrong word can be corrected before you move on, and pauses over three seconds do not count.
Yes, in this browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere, and you do not need an account.
The test is built for a physical keyboard, and a speed typed with your thumbs measures a different skill. On a phone, read how to touch type, then take the test at a computer.
